Employability Skills Classes and Training

We have lots of exciting FREE courses planned for you each term, so whether you are looking to pick up a new skill to get back to work, want to brush up on existing skills, need help to find a job, improve your English language skills or discover a new hobby, we have something for everyone. Popular courses fill up quickly so make sure you book your place early to avoid disappointment!

ESOL Skills for Life English classes:

• Practise your English Language Skills!
• Make new friends at classes!
• Build your confidence and independence speaking English with your landlord, on public transport, at the doctor’s and at your child’s school!

This course supports speakers of other languages based within the UK to develop their English language skills for work, further learning or everyday life.

VES – Vocational and Employability Skills courses:

• British Sign Language for beginners

This course introduces learners to British Sign Language. Learners will be taught how to sign to introduce themselves and use a range of vocabulary to make basic phrases about meeting people, weather and transport – can be adapted according to learners’ needs.


• Jewellery Making for beginners 
In this introductory jewellery making course you will learn simple and practical techniques. The emphasis is on developing confidence and realising the potential for making jewellery with limited access to equipment and skills. The aim is for participants to produce some finished work.


• Introduction to Sewing
In this course participants will learn to set up and use a sewing machine, get advice and direction on pattern and fabric buying and cutting out. They will produce a variety of samples and explore stitch variations.


• Level 1 Food Safety and Hygiene online course
This course is a terrific opportunity to gain a recognised City and Guilds qualification in Level 1 and raise your awareness of what you need to know when preparing food for yourself, your family or the public. The course will cover topics such as food storage and the safe handling of food.


• Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene online course for Catering
This food hygiene level 2 course has been designed for anyone who works with or handles food in any workplace setting such as schools, restaurants, cafes, bars, nurseries and many, many more.

ICT – Information and Technology courses:

• Using Email for beginners
Learn how to send and receive email attachments, manage your folders, contacts and calendar.


  Introduction to Word, Spreadsheets & Email
Do you have a basic knowledge of computers and want to learn more? Then this course is the course for you. Including: Word Processing, Spreadsheets & Email.  Gain confidence using computers as part of your everyday life.


• Personal Budgeting using Excel
Learn how to plan and organise your personal budget using Excel. This course will help you to adopt good money management habits and show you how to use some of the basic features of a spreadsheet.


• Digital Skills Drop – in
Get help and support to develop your skills when using computers, laptops or other devices. You can learn at your own pace and also find out about other courses available to help you improve your digital skills. BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.

Employment support drop – in

Get help writing your CV, searching for jobs, filling in application forms and interview tips. You can also get information on self-employment and advice on setting up your own business, or find out about workshops and courses to help you improve your skills and chances of gaining employment.
